Kominfo : Google No 'Untouchables'

Jakarta - The Ministry of Communications and Informatics will review the legality of Google's efforts in doing business in Indonesia. This step will be taken so that no more foreign companies are not above the law.

"We will examine aspects of Google to determine their legality in Indonesia as a company," said Minister of Communication Tifatul Sembiring after a working meeting with the House of Representatives Commission I, in Jakarta, Wednesday (01/18/2012).

According to Tifatul, in accordance with the Law on Information and Electronic Transaction (ITE) No. 11/2008, every foreign company which organizes electronic-based services in Indonesia is required to build the server and data center.

"It was necessary command UU ITE PP (Government Regulation) which is still in Draft form. But once PP was finished, they like Google and RIM (Research in Motion) has long ago we told to be ready. Because we are aware, it is necessary long time to prepare ourselves up servers and data centers, "explained the Minister.

Meanwhile, according to Director General of Post Tool Resources Information Administrator, Muhammad Budi Setiawan, Google may be considered as Internet service providers (ISP / ISP) will provide services if Google Connect. "It's all included in our study," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Head of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Gatot S Dewa Broto, a review is done so that there is legal certainty from companies like Google and RIM in doing business in Indonesia.

"We do not want the future there are companies like Google and RIM's entry into Indonesia and then become 'Untouchable' from the rule of law in this country," he concluded.
